Open House and the beginning of a new school year

We had a tremendous turnout at the Elementary Open House and Prayer Walk. It was great to see so many new faces along with the familiar faces from the past school year. The opening day of school was very smooth and I am proud to say we are underway in the 2010-2011 School year with over 260 elementary students.

Carpool for the first few days will be adventurous but so far everything seems to be going well despite the heat.

Our first chapel is Wednesday, August 18th at 9:45 in Trojan Hall and the magazine kickoff is Thursday morning , August 19th in Trojan Hall. The first football game is Friday the 20th at Home.

Once again we look forward to partnering with you in the education of your children. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have questions.

Late Summer Update

With the start of school less than a week away, I wanted give you an update on several items.

We will add a third section of 6th grade due to increased enrollment. Our numbers in that grade are now in the mid 40's . We have hired former Tattnall teacher Mrs. Patti Garretson to teach 5th and 6th grade Reading and Bible.

Sixth grade class rolls are now online. Thanks for your patience while we were dealing with the increased enrollment.

The elementary Open House and Prayer Walk are scheduled for Tuesday, August 10th beginning at 5:00. Teachers will be in their classrooms to meet, answer questions and provide guidance for the upcoming school year.

It's going to be a fantastic year at Tattnall Square Academy and I look forward to working with you and seeing you on campus.

Congratulations to the newly elected Elementary Student Council Officers for the 2010-2011 school year.

They are:

They will be officially inducted next Wednesday at chapel beginning at 10:00 in Trojan Hall.

Also next Wednesday, we will have a moving up ceremony for the 6th grade as they prepare for the school wide ceremony on Thursday. This will begin immediately following student council induction.

40th year celebration

Tattnall Square Academy will celebrate n 40 years of serving families in the Middle Georgia area during the weekend of March 19-21.

The weekend will kickoff with a Celebrate Tattnall Party on Friday, March 19th at Wesley glen Ministries at 7:00. Attendees will enjoy music by the Grapevine, bid on auction items, and enjoy great food and friends.

Saturday, March 20th will bring an Alumni Baseball game, an Alumni concert, and reunions for the classes of 1980, 1990, 1995, and 2000. Sunday, March 21st will be TSA day at Tattnall Square Baptist Church.

February 8 - March 19th - Honor Tattnall

Gifts of $40 in honor of a person, event, or special memory for you in the history of Tattnall.
You may make gifts in honor of as many people, events, or special memories as you desire.
Please send all donations to TSA and clearly designate the honoree by March 19th.
Our goal is $40,000 from February 10th to March 19th to benefit the Annual Fund.
Supporters of this campaign will be our guests for the Celebrate Tattnall party

The months of January and February bring winter’s chill, potential snow days, along with a multitude of activities at Tattnall Square Academy Elementary School. The Geography Bee was last Tuesday, sixth grader Paul Harrington was the winner and the Spelling Bee is this Tuesday, the 19th . We hosted a very successful Open House last week with over thirty families in attendance. Another Open House, along with Grandparent's Day, is scheduled for the first week of February. These are just a few of the many activities ongoing at Tattnall Square Academy

The faculty and administration of Tattnall Square Academy are committed to your children. Together, we have faith that God will guide our every action with His wisdom. As partners in the educational process, we can all achieve success if we work toward the common goal, the education of our children as Christian leaders..

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

What a great performance by the 4th, 5th and 6th grade music classes in the Elementary Christmas Musical. All the teachers and students are to be commended for their efforts. The Band students had their concert Thursday, December 10th in Trojan Hall and was very entertaining. Kids Yule Love was Friday morning and as always, put us in the Tattnall traditions Christmas spirit.
December brings to a close a fantastic first semester for the Tattnall Square Elementary School. Much has been achieved but as always there is more to be accomplished. Above all, we cherish our lasting partnership with you, the parents, as we continue to guide our students towards achievement and success.

I look forward to seeing you in 2010 for what will I know will be an outstanding year.

A special season

Can you believe the holiday season is fast approaching. This is definitely an extra special time of the year at Tattnall Square Academy Elementary School with many holiday activities on the calendar.
The K-5 presentation of Thanksgiving at chapel, November 18th, the Elementary School Christmas Musical, December 3rd at 7:00, the Band Concert December 10th, and Kids Yule Love December 11th, are just a few of the many upcoming events planned.
I encourage you to join us at these traditional Tattnall events as we demonstrate our true holiday spirit.Thanks for being a part of our learning community and I hope you enjoy your Thanksgiving Break.

Elementary Outdoor Learning Garden

Last year we were awarded a $1000 grant from the Loveday Foundation to establish an Outdoor Learning Laboratory. This garden is located between the two story elementary building and the football bleachers. Each grade level is responsible for one area. We have planted a variety of winter plants such as petunias, lettuce, broccoli, parsley and collard greens. We are looking forward to learning about plants, soil, nutrition and the weather.

Homecoming week

Tattnall Square Academy Elementary school celebrated Homecoming last week with special activities every day. We participated in two pep rallies, dress up days like camo day and decade day and many other special events aimed at creating school spirit.
Best of all we won the football game Friday night.

Caroline Jackson named National Merit Semi Finalist

Congratulations to senior Caroline Jackson for being named one of three National Merit semifinalists in Bibb County with a total of six in the South Georgia area. Caroline is among 16,000 other high school students attending public and independent schools in the U.S. to be chosen as a semi-finalist.

The 2008 PSAT/NMSQT serves as an initial screening of over 1.5 million applicants to the National Merit Scholarship program. Semifinalists are the highest scorers in each of the 50 states and represent less than one percent of each state's high school seniors.
Another shining example of Tattnall Square Academy's dedication to excellence.

Celebrating the Fruits of the Spirit in Chapel

Every Wednesday at Tattnall Square Elementary School, we celebrate the Fruits of the Spirit in chapel. The September chapels have focused on the Fruit of the Spirit - Love. Students also earn Kosater cash for demonstrating love throughout the week. Once the entire class accumulates enough Kosater cash, they may redeem the cash for special prizes.

Mr. Collins letter to parents

The following is a letter from Mr. Collins discussing flu precautions at Tattnall Square Academy.

Dear Parents,

It is the desire of Tattnall Square Academy to provide our students with a healthy and nourishing environment throughout the school year. Since the flu can easily be transmitted from person to person, we are asking that you join us in implementing these steps to prevent the spread of flu here at TSA.

Teach your children to wash their hands often with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand rub.

Teach your children not to share personal items like drinks, food, or unwashed utensils. Instruct them to cover their coughs or sneezes using the elbow, arm, or sleeve instead of the hand when a tissue is unavailable.

Know the signs and symptoms of the flu. Symptoms of the flu include fever (100 degrees or greater), cough, sore throat, a runny or stuffy nose, body ache, headache, and feeling very tired. Some people may also vomit or have diarrhea.

Keep sick children at home from school and extracurricular activities for at least 24 hours after they no longer have fever or do not have signs of fever without using fever-reducing drugs. This will reduce the number of people who may get infected. Any children who are determined by the school to have flu-like symptoms will be sent home immediately. Keep children at home who have fever and ANY flu like symptoms until RELEASE by your DOCTOR.

We have confirmed cases of flu, and we know we will have additional cases in the near future. We are taking steps to keep mass contact to a minimum. As well, teachers are taking extra care in the classroom to reduce exposure.

The Gingerbread Man

The gingerbread man made an appearance in K5 Friday, August 21st. He ran around school breaking many rules, running in the halls, not being quiet in the library and not using his manners in the lunch room. Both K5 classes searched the campus but finally found him in Mr. Kosater's office. Both Mrs. Chapman's class and Mrs. Kitchen's classes were glad he ended up in a safe place.

I hope your year is off to a terrific start. With over 160 new students grades 4K-12, we believe this year will be one of our best ever.

Our goal as educators continues to be to establish partnerships with you, the parents, in the education of your children. We believe Tattnall Square Academy is poised for greatness and we are excited about what lies ahead in the future . We will certainly encounter the daily trials and tribulations of school life, but we will remain enthusiastically committed to our students and their success.

Another Fantastic Year on the Way

I hope your summer was filled with relaxation, rest and quality family time. On behalf of Mr. Collins, our Headmaster and the entire elementary faculty I want to welcome you to the start of what we believe will be a fantastic school year.
This is what will hopefully be a new and improved elementary school blog for the 2009-2010 school year, another method of communication to keep you updated about what occurs in elementary school at TSA. Our goal will aways be to partner with you to provide an optimal learning environment for your children.
There are numerous activities planned for the days leading up to Wednesday, August 12th, the first day of school. Here are a few of them:

Sunday, August 9th- Prayer Walk 6:00 beginning in Trojan Hall.

Tuesday, August 11th- New Family Orientation 8:30 in Trojan Hall. This is for new families and all First Grade parents.

Wednesday, August 12th- First day of school. Half Day. 4K and 5K orientation.

Thursday, August 13th- Grades 2-12 first full day of school. Grades 4K, 5K and 1st are half day.
